Aaron Rodgers could face the Packers one more time Thursday night
Aaron Rodgers could take the field against the Green Bay Packers one more time when Pittsburgh opens its preseason schedule Thursday night. Mike McCarthy says he and Rodgers are still discussing whether the 42-year-old quarterback should play. Rodgers has said he will suit up if his coach wants him to, although he has not pushed for preseason snaps. Green Bay plans to play Jordan Love, creating the possibility of a Rodgers-versus-Love storyline if Pittsburgh gives Rodgers even one offensive snap. The decision remains unresolved heading into game day.
Corroborating: Steelers.com reported that Mike McCarthy and Rodgers are still discussing his preseason plan. Rodgers has said he will play if asked, while Green Bay plans to play Jordan Love. Pittsburgh has not announced whether Rodgers will take the field.
He did not play at all in Pittsburgh’s 28–9 preseason win over Green Bay on Aug. 13. Steelers coach Mike McCarthy held him out, and Rodgers watched from the sideline.
