C.J. Stroud and the Texans are officially on the clock
C.J. Stroud and the Texans are officially on the clock. Houston has made Week 1 the deadline for getting a blockbuster extension done with its franchise quarterback. Stroud is entering the fourth season of his rookie contract. Houston already exercised his fifth-year option, keeping him under contract through 2027. GM Nick Caserio says extension talks have been productive, but the Texans will not negotiate during the regular season. Houston already handed Will Anderson Jr. a massive new extension this offseason. Now all eyes turn to the other cornerstone from the Texans' 2023 draft class. If a Stroud deal does not happen before the opener, talks could be pushed all the way to next offseason.
Corroborating: Nick Caserio says talks with Stroud have been productive, but Houston plans to stop negotiating once the regular season begins.
๐ Will the Texans sign C.J. Stroud to an extension before Week 1?
