Vita Vea requests trade from Buccaneers amid contract dispute
Vita Vea has formally requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after attempts to negotiate a long-term extension stalled. NFL Network reported that the two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle made the request as he entered the final year of his current contract. Vea reported to training camp, but his participation has been limited while the situation remains unresolved. He is due a $17 million base salary in 2026 with none of it guaranteed, plus up to $1 million in per-game roster bonuses. Tampa Bay can reject the request, continue extension talks, or explore a trade. No trade or new contract has been announced.
Corroborating: NFL Network insiders reported that Vea requested a trade after failed extension talks. Reuters confirmed the request through agent Collin Roberts and reported that Vea is entering the final season of his deal with a $17 million nonguaranteed base salary. No trade has been completed.
The Buccaneers did not trade Vita Vea. Tampa Bay signed him to a one-year, $30 million extension on August 19, 2026, keeping him under contract through 2027.
